  1. Chess enthusiast

I played a chess tournament back in the 90s sometime, and Eduard Gufeld was playing on Board One if memory serves correct. Jack Peters, IM and the L.A. Times chess editor played a game against Gufeld and Arthur Bisguire also attended.
Gufeld was certainly a character but with a big affable personality. I watched a game he was playing and after his opponent took 15 minutes on a move, Gufeld made his move and said, “Check Mate in Three”. He looked over at some onlookers who were smiling, and said, “This is how you say it, no?”
How I wish I had known about his chess academy that he started in his apt. bldg in Hollywood, CA. I am a native of Hollywood, CA.
God Bless you Eduard … rest in peace.

Eduard Gufeld in promoting chess in Malaysia has vastly touched many fellow chess players including me. He taught me a valuable lesson that made me now! We had lost GREAT chess legend and we will surely miss you Eduard

Eduard Gufeld touched many people’s hearts in Malaysia. He’s gone, but never forgotten. We hope he has now found his Mona Lisa.
