George Palmer Powers

1874 - 1937

George Palmer Powers was born October 27, 1874 in Whitesville, new Yark. He was the second son of Albert Palmer Powers Of Petersburg, New Yourk and Elnore Alice Bledsoe. In about 1892 at the age of 40 Albert followed George’s grandfather, Amaziah Palmer Powers to Hartley, Iowa. Young george was 18 at the time. Albert later settled on a farm northwest of Heron Lake, Minnesota. Before opening a Restautant with his youngest son, Norman, in Pipestone. Albert died fo acute appendicitis on Feb. 1st, 1905 at the ae of 52

In addition to Norman, George had two other siblings: Sylvester, of whom we know nothing , and an older brother, Renton, who later owned a ranch in Tracy, California.

George declined the move to Minnesota, choosing to remain in Iowa and at the age of 22 He Married Evelyn Evans on December 31, 1896 in Center Township, O’Brien Co., Iowa. Here they had 7 children, all born in O’Brien county, Margaret, Albert, Floyd, Helen, Evelyn, Marietta, and lastly, Norman in 1912.
Some years later, George and his family also moved to California. They choose Hollywood where they invested in real estate, owning a number of apartments and courts They made their home at 1317 Edgemont Street, near Fountain Avenue in Hollywood. Here a number of family members and futer in-laws resided at various times. It was also here, in 1937 at the age of 62, that George, like his father, Developed acute appendicitis and died.
