Evelyn Ardell Powers was born on November 13, 1905 in Hartley, Iowa. She was the 5th child of george Palmer Powers of Whitesville, New York and Evelyn Evans of Iowa. Her Parents came to California sometime after 1912 and settled in the Hollywood area where she attended Hollywood High. While there she was smitten by an upperclassman, Alfred Hugh Webb. They were married in May of 1925, he was 22 and Evelyn was 19.
They lived in Waikiki, Hawaii, where Alfred worked for a local construction materials supplier. Evelyn was pregnant by July of 1926 bt by that time she realized the relationship was not working out. She left Alfred and returned stateside to give birth to her first daughter in April of 1927 in Los Angeles.
She nest pursued a relationship with William Thomas Connors from New York. She married Bill about 1928 and by 1935 they had two more girls. Although she loved him very much, Bill had a drinking problem which created insufferable familial dischord. In 1942 Evelyn married again, this time to Earl Rhoads, but like her first two marriages, this one also ended in divorce.
As an off and on simgle mother of three growing daughters, Evelyn was having dufficulties making ends meet. At one point she farmed the girls out to various relatives unable to make enough money to support them herself. Eventeually the girls returned home an life continued on until, one by one, they moved out on their own.
After the departure of the girls Evelyn shared a home with her mother, often bringing the nieces, nephews, and grandchildren back for well-remembered Christmas dinners of family reunions on the 4th of July at nearby Chesterfield Square park.
She spent her final years living in Buena park where, in August of 1964 she suffered a heart attack and died a few days later. She was survived by her mother, three daughters and eleven Grandchildren.
