Grandma’s Home

Let it be known my Grandma’s gone home. Moved on to glory where she can’t be left alone.
Sufferin’ and sickness is finished, no more of this world’s wickedness. See Grandma’s
Where she wants to be. I used to take care of her when she needed me. See, it’d be when my
Mom had an errand to run, Church or choir rehearsal, sort of a role Reversal. I got to
Pay back a little time of mine. I didn’t mind wiping her behind, she used to wipe mine!
When I was born she put family first, moved from Dallas to Cali so My Momma could
Go back to work. Cleanin’ and cookin’ and giving me whoopins’, lookin’ after me and Kim,
I’ll never Forget it. I got in trouble a lot. I was hard headed. I never let it bother me,
But, my Father would be replaced with her kind face. ‘Cause when my Momma said No,
“Grandma knows”! Momma would let me but Grandma wouldn’t sweat me.

While she watched her stories, she told me stories about men before me and how God had
Something for me. Everybody called her Nanny, except Danny. Me and her was “special.”
I guess you could say close. Though most Grandmas and Grandsons are. Our
Relationship meant more than you can imagine. Asking her how much she love me, she’d say
“So much it Hurts” … “Bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck.”

A little after she won Ms. Senior Citizen of 1986, she got sick, by-pass surgery,
Double amputee, arthritis, bronchitis, diabetes, high cholesterol, and gallstones … Now
That’s all gone and Grandma’s home! She talked about it all the time. The pink casket,
And the way the earrings O.J. King gave her shined … Seeing her mother, father, sister,
Brothers again. Then I told her I hated to hear that. But Jesus loved her, now she will
Finally get to see that man she’s been talking about … ’cause if my Grandma didn’t make it
To Heaven they gotta kick all the Saints out.

In this celebration of her life … I have come to the realization that she taught us well and
Moved on. I wasn’t born when she came. Now I’m grown, got a seven-year-old daughter of
My own … and my Mamma is Her Grandma, so her legacy lives on. Sleep on
Sweetheart … Sleep on.
…the Lord finally called and my Grandma’s home!
Danny
