“Grandma used to wear this ring with birthstones of every month on it. Every time I would visit her, she would go through each month of the birthstone and tell me everybody’s birthday of that month. Not only would it be her kids, but also all her grandkids. It would amaze me that she could remember everybody’s birthday.”

“When my two brothers and I were children, our parents would take us to Grandma’s house for our weekly visit. Every time Grandma would have a dollar for each of us. Then, we would carefully cross the street and go to the corner market for candy. I only wish my children could have shared those special moments.”

“When I was about 3 years old, Fedelina came to visit our family in Santa Fe, New Mexico. At the time, my father was going to school, and we did not have a lot of money. Fedelina tried giving my father some money, but he refused it. Just before leaving our house, Fedelina gave me a $20 and told me that the ‘2’ on the bill meant that it was not that much money, and I should give it to my father for his birthday. I did as she suggested — and we were able to eat filet mignon for my father’s birthday.”

I miss my grandma. My best friends grandpa is really sick so I came here to show her the stuff about grandma, and I miss her and want her back…

  2. Grandma

Grandma took great pride in making hundreds of tamales and pots of posole and chile every Christmas. As each family member walked through her doors to visit her during the holiday, she would direct them to the kitchen with a shy little smile on her face encouraging them to eat the wonderful food that she had spent hours and hours preparing. Christmas will never be the same…
