Our favorite movie to screen at the cemetery explores existentialist questions with dark humor, off beat (taboo) romance, morbid sensibilities, and Flower Power.

Between staging his own elaborate suicides, hearse driving Harold (Bud Cort) encounters free-spirited octogenarian Maude (Ruth Gordon) during their shared hobby of funeral watching.  Romance ensues when Maude steals Harold’s hearse and offers him a ride.  What follows is a life affirming love story unlike any other in cinematic history as Maude teaches Harold how to find meaning in life as well as death.
